Carers – Don’t Tone Alone!

Please vote for Carers Network!

Carers Network are approaching the Aviva Community Fund to support a project that will provide unpaid carers with personalised support to improve their physical health and live an independent, healthy and fulfilling life.

We need your vote to help us secure this funding!

You can find out more information and vote here

If successful we will deliver a 12-month project that will work to change the behaviour of carers, empowering them to enhance their physical, mental and emotional health wellbeing.

The project will include:

  • Personal Training Service for Carers
  • Wellbeing and information Workshops

We would like people to vote for this project because the potential benefits are so huge.

In addition to the personal wellbeing of the unpaid carer being improved, it allows them to provide better and more consistent care for their loved one.

This is of vital importance, because in the event of a carer falling ill, or being physically unable to cope with the burden of their caring role, there will be a huge impact on the wellbeing of the cared for person as well.

Single Point of Access to mental health services

In Central, North West and West London a new 24/7 crisis helpline was launched earlier in the year to ensure people could talk to someone urgently about their mental health when they needed.

This inventive idea makes mental health services quicker and easier to access and makes creating referrals easier.

The services accept referrals from carers, family members, the police, GPs, ambulance service and other professionals.

To access this service in Hammersmith & Fulham Ealing and Hounslow please call 0300 1234 244.

To access this service in Westminster Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon, and Kensington & Chelsea please call 0800 0234 650 or email cnw-tr.spa@nhs.net

You can read more about services available in North West London at www.cnwl.nhs.uk, www.westlondoncamhs.nhs.uk and www.healthiernorthwestlondon.nhs.uk.

October is Free Wills Month!

Visit the website now to take part – www.freewillsmonth.org.uk – all you need to do is scroll down, enter your details and follow the instructions to select a convenient solicitor from the list (you can also view on a map).

Call them to book your appointment, please remember to mention ‘Free Wills Month’ when you call. The charities are paying for a limited number of Wills, so the earlier you call, the better.

They have participating solicitors in more than 50 locations across England, Scotland and Wales so there should be a Free Wills Month solicitor close to you.

If they don’t have a location near you and you are unable to travel to any of them, unfortunately you won’t be able to take part in the campaign this time.

They will have another campaign with completely different locations in March 2017.

The website has a Will Planner which is a handy summary of the things you might like to think about before you visit a solicitor.

The Free Wills Month service is available only because the charities concerned are funding the promotion. They do it because they are dependent on legacies in Wills for such a large part of their income. So while you are not obliged to include a legacy to one or more of the charities, clearly the promotion is organised to encourage these wonderful gifts – they cost you nothing now but make a difference to these fantastic charities in years to come. It’s an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in a painless way!

Each Will written without a gift takes money away from the charities’ core work: please consider this when making your appointment.
