TEAM CN: Meet Marathon Mike!

We are pleased to announce that we have filled the place we received in the charity ballot for this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon, and Mike Booker will be running the 26- mile course to raise funds for Carers Network on 23 April.

We are very excited as this is the first time Carers Network has had a place in the marathon – which is the world’s largest annual single-day charity fundraising event!

Mike manages a Community Mental Health Team for the local Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) that has a specific focus of working with young people who are
experiencing or recovering from a first episode of psychosis. As Mike explains, “This is a very challenging yet rewarding job, it’s a job that wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of the family and friends of the people experiencing the problem. Sometimes the voice of carers is not heard, and the support Carers Network offers is invaluable in making sure their voice is heard.”

In the lead-up to the race we will be helping Mike with his fundraising drive, which will include some exciting pre-race events including one at The Inn at the Green in Hanwell on Saturday 25 February.

Very high levels of particle pollution in London

Very high levels of particle pollution are being measured across London at the moment as a result of weather conditions.

Government advice for adults and children with lung or heart problems, and the elderly, is to avoid strenuous physical activity.

The government also recommends that everyone else should reduce physical exertion, particularly outdoors

For up to date information on levels of pollution across London see www.londonair.org.uk

Download the City Air app to give you alerts on high pollution days and suggests actions that you can take to reduce exposure to air pollution.

Its key function is to give users cleaner travel routes across London. These routes can be tailored for pedestrians, cyclists, joggers or drivers.

Time to Talk Day

Thursday 2 February 2017 is Time To Talk Day.

Conversations about mental health change lives.

At the moment, too many people with mental health problems are made to feel isolated, ashamed and worthless by other people’s reactions.

But talking about mental health doesn’t need to be difficult. It can be as simple as making time to have a cup of tea or go for a walk, and listening to someone talk about how they feel.

Being open about mental health and ready to listen can make a positive difference to someone’s life.
