Carers Network celebrated Carers Week 2016 with a busy week of activities for both Westminster and Hammersmith and Fulham carers!
We kicked off the week by co-hosting ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities’ with Carers Kensington and Chelsea at Kensington Town Hall on Monday 6 June.
This was an event for both Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea carers.
Here carers heard talks from Barclays Bank – on fraud prevention, third party mandates and power of attorney; The Commissioning Team, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster – on future carer services in the two boroughs; The Department of Work and Pensions Carers Allowance Unit – on carers allowance; and The Recovery and Wellbeing College – on how carers can benefit from attending courses at the college.
Throughout the day local services had stalls with lots of useful information for carers.
Carers from both boroughs were also be able to get health checks from the Health Checkers and free hand massages courtesy of Body Shop.
On Monday a group of H&F carers also enjoyed a trip to Chiswick House where they explored the historical house and beautiful gardens in the sunshine!

On Thursday 9 June H&F carers attended Advice and Wellbeing Workshops at the Mencap Centre.
A light exercise session helped get carers’ pulses going and the day off to a racing start before H&F Citizens Advice gave a session on Benefits entitlement where carers found out what was new in this workshop dedicated to carers’ needs.
After lunch, carer caught up with the news & views from Hammersmith and Fulham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) where the group heard information on the CCG’s work with GPs and frontline health services and were a given the opportunity to help shape future services.
Carers were then able to relax and unwind by taking part in a mindfulness session at the end of the event.
