MOVE MORE, FEEL BETTER, BECOME STRONGER

Educational sessions and workshops as part of Carers Week to support carers in learning more about the importance of physical activity as a way to ensure long-lasting health and well-being (for both carers and the people they are caring for) and then to demonstrate some simple exercises that can be done from within the home environment.

These sessions will be provided by a social enterprise organisation called N.ableD (pronounced ‘enabled’) that supports people who struggle to leave the home to become more physically active as a way to help them improve their overall health and well-being.

Advice and Wellbeing Workshop event for H&F carers: Thurs 9 June

Carers Network will be celebrating the week with an Advice and Wellbeing Workshop event for H&F carers on Thursday 9 June.

This will be at The Mencap Centre, 65 Aspenlea Road, W6 8LH from 10. 30am – 3.30pm

Join us for walk-in workshops, stalls, health checks and lunch.

11am Get physical! This light exercise session will be just enough to get your pulse going and get the day off to a racing start.To join in the exercise session part of workshop please remember to wear flat footwear and loose clothing to the event.
12 midday Benefits entitlement – what’s new for you? find out from H&F Citizens Advice speakers in this workshop dedicated to carers’ needs.
12.30pm Lunch – make sure you sign up in advance to join us for a light lunch
1.30pm News & Views from Hammersmith and Fulham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) – essential info on the CCG’s work with GPs and frontline health and they will be offering you the chance to help shape their services…
2-3pm Relax – join us for a mindfulness session, taking time out of your busy life to bring your attention to the internal and external experiences occurring in the present moment, which can be developed through the practice of meditation. 

All day

  • local services will run information stall
  • free carer health checks

Building Carer Friendly Communities: Mon 6 June

BuildingThe countdown is on to Carers Week 2016!

 

Carers Network and Carers Kensington and Chelsea are excited to be able to invite carers to our new joint event.

Building on the theme of Building Carer Friendly Communities we’ll be kicking off Carers Week together on Monday 6 June with – a free event for Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea carers at Kensington Town Hall, Small Hall, Hornton St, W8 7NX from 11am – 3pm.

Talks include:

  • Barclays Bank – on fraud prevention, third party mandates and power of attorney
  • The Commissioning Team, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster – on future carer services in the two boroughs.
  • The Department of Work and Pensions Carers Allowance Unit – on carers allowance.
  • The Recovery and Wellbeing College – on how carers can benefit from attending courses at the college.

Throughout the day local services will have stalls with lots of useful information for carers

Carers from both boroughs will also be able to get free hand massages and health checks at the event.

Carers Week: Events and Trips for H&F Carers

This year’s focus is on building Carer Friendly Communities; communities which support carers to look after their family or friends well, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own.

 

To celebrate Carers Week we have a busy week of activities for Hammersmith and Fulham carers.

Chiswick HouseMonday 6 June we kick off the week with a trip to Chiswick House at 1.30pm. We will be able to provide free entry to the house – then, after your visit you can enjoy the gardens.

 

Thames CruiseTuesday 7 June we’ll be exploring The Thames on a River Cruise. We have a number of tickets available which enable
you to hop on and off the boats as many times as you like during the day. We’ll be meeting at Westminster Pier at 11am
where you can collect your ticket and we’ll depart on the 11.30am boat to Greenwich.

Happy-25th-Birthday-26Wednesday 8 June we’ll be celebrating Carers Network’s 25th birthday in style, at the Beethoven Centre, W10 4JL.
Come along to join in the fun from 1pm. There’ll be a tea and cake, a Laughter Workshop, a fun light physical activity session, and Carers Time Bank members will be demonstrating their skills – we’ll also be inaugurating the Great Carers Bake Off! Find out more information here.

Guided TourFriday 10 June finally – and like the River Cruise, back by popular demand – we will be organising a guided tour of
The Houses of Parliament. The group will be meeting at Westminster tube station at 9.30am for a 10am tour.

Booking on to Carers Weeks Events

  • Tickets for River Cruise and Houses of Parliament tour are prioritised on a first come first served basis for carers who did not go on these trips last year.
  • To ensure as many carers as possible have the chance to be involved, carers will only be able to book onto one of either the River Cruise or Houses of Parliament tour

Carers Week are asking people to RECOMMEND organisations, services and employers who are already carer friendly and INVITE other organisations to use their checklist to COMMIT to becoming carer friendly.
