Carers Network and Westminster Carers Service join forces

We are really delighted to announce that Carers Network is now managing the Carers Time Bank across Westminster, making us the one-stop-shop for carers services across the City of Westminster.

Carers Network believes this will mean that even more carers in the borough get to enjoy the benefits of the Carers Time Bank along with the existing support, activities, advice and services of Carers Network, which delivers carers services on behalf of Westminster Council.

We are delighted that the current Time Bank team, Viola Etienne and Siyane Debela-Dinssa, will continue to run the service and will be based with Carers Network in the busy Beethoven community Centre in Queen’s Park.

The Carers Time Bank was previously run by the longstanding and well-regarded local charity Westminster Carers Service. Trustees of Westminster Carers Service began discussions with Carers Network in early 2015 to explore how the organisations could work more closely together and agreed that the best option for Time Bank members and future members would be for Carers Network to take over the running of the Time Bank.  This is due to the size of Carers Network, the links to other services and contracts, the variety of work we offer and our reach.  Carers Network believes that the valuable work of the Time Bank really complements our existing work with carers. Following the transfer Westminster Carers Service will wind up as an organisation, leaving behind a proud history of valuable work to support unpaid carers in the borough.

Summer Trip to Brighton

It had been hit and miss weather wise before our Carers Network coach trip to Brighton on Friday 29th August.  But fortunately for us the sun came out, and it turned out to be a lovely warm day.  So there was no need for umbrellas and wellies after all!

Over 30 carers were able to come along and enjoy a day out in Brighton, and the majority also decided to join the self-guided tour we arranged at the Royal Pavilion.

The feedback on ‘What was liked most about the trip’, was the fresh air, being by the sea and out of London for the day, the historical value of the Royal Pavilion, and being able to relax a bit.  And of course the beach and fish and chips!

There is always room for improvement when planning and organising events and trips etc – which is why completing our Feedback and Evaluation forms is important.  Based on the feedback received on ‘Is there anything you felt needed improvement?’ ,  it was suggested that a better meeting point for Westminster would be a good idea – especially as the coach just about made it through the small nearby streets to get to the Beethoven Centre.

Taking all the feedback into consideration, overall, it turned out to be a great day out.

Carers enjoy cruise on Thames

On the 24th October Carers Network and City Cruises worked in partnership to deliver a free lunch time cruise across the Thames River for a group of carers.  The mini voyage through the heart of London also included a gourmet three- course meal with running commentary on the history of the Thames. After desert, carers strolled on deck to fully take in the river cruise experience. This historical views ranged from the awe-inspiring Houses of Parliament to the ancient Tower of London (with its gruesome past) and onto the Royal Palace of Greenwich. Indeed, carers enjoyed a feast for the eyes, ears and stomach.

Lunch cruise River Boat Cruise Carer, Joseph Frimpong said, “It was a fantastic trip – I enjoyed every moment and felt totally relaxed, it was nice to be waited on for a change. Thank you very much Carers Network”

Communications and Engagement Manager Cecilia Faduola who organised the trip said “Carers Network believe in memorable, quality breaks and will do everything possible to give carers just that”

Carers Network would like to thank City Cruises for their contribution towards the trip and excellent service on board the hop on hop off sightseeing tour.
