CARERS WEEK 2017: 12 JUNE – 18 JUNE
It won’t be long until Carers Week 2017 is upon us!
This national awareness week celebrates and recognises the vital contribution made by the 6.5 million people across the UK who currently provide unpaid care for a disabled, ill or older family member or friend.
The theme for this year’s Carers Week is building communities that support carers to look after their loved ones well, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own.
We have a jammed packed programme of FREE events and trips lined up to celebrate the week.
Monday 12 June, 10:45am: River Cruise. Back by popular demand, we’ll be kicking off the week by embarking on a river cruise. We have tickets available that will enable you to hop on and off the boats as many times as you like during the day. We’ll be meeting at Westminster Pier at 10:45am where you can collect your ticket, and we’ll depart on the 11:20am boat to Greenwich.
Wednesday 14 June, 2:30pm – 5pm: Group Tour of Westminster Abbey. This tour will be given by the Abbey’s expert guides and be followed by refreshments and a talk revealing lots of interesting history about the Abbey – along with points of local interest. (Please note that if you have mobility issues the room where the group will be meeting at the Abbey is only accessible by stairs).
Thursday 15 June, 11am – 3pm: Health and Information Day, The Stowe Centre, 258 Harrow Rd, W2 5ES. Here, Adult Social Care, the NHS and other local organisations will be hosting stalls with lots of useful information and advice. You will also be able to meet fellow carers, have free hand massages, talk to health trainers and enjoy a light lunch that will be provided.
Friday 16 June, 3pm: Guided Tour of the Houses of Parliament. Here the group will meet outside Westminster tube at 3pm.
Monday 19 June, 11am – 1pm: Art-focused Workshop at Queen’s Gallery. As a bonus this year, we also have an extra activity at the Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace Road – with the gallery hosting an art-focused workshop where you can engage with and experience the exhibition and enjoy a landscape inspired session where you create your own artwork.
To register for any of these events or trips please call 020 8960 3033 / email email@example.com
Tickets for river cruise and Houses of Parliament tour are prioritised on a first-come first-served basis for carers who did not go on these trips last year.
To ensure as many carers as possible have the chance to be involved, carers will not be able to initially book onto both the river cruise and Houses of Parliament tour.
